School eLearning Systems

It is known that it is not possible for students to follow teaching-learning process by complete face to face due to the COVID-19 Pandemic in the World(WHO, 2019). Therefore, I have started development of Digital Library and ELearning system to make learning resources available for students following Ethiopian Educational Policy. The only thing I want from you is to fund me and success the process.

My name is Chala Dandessa. I am Lecturer at Jimma Teachers College, Department of Biology. I have started to launch online learning platform for students across Oromia. Even if I have finished all the setups of my website I have shortage of budget to prepare necessary learning resources to host on my website. I have designed to launch the website fully functioning after cooperating the with selected College teachers.

Over the years, there have always been various definitions to define what eLearning really is, or how eLearning is conducted effectively as it always focusses on the specific needs of an individual or an organization. So, let’s give the definition of the term first and then move on to the major goals and expectations of eLearning(Francis, 2020).

ELearning is a learning process with the combination of content that is both delivered digitally and through face-to-face learning. ELearning contributes to the shifts from traditional face-to-face learning to the use of web technological tools which enhances collaborative learning and presents an entirely new learning platform for students. ELearning has also been the principal form of distance education but now, it is also changing the instructions on higher education as it is now becoming a global agent in higher education. Advancements in technology learning have contributed to the enhancements of generations of face-to-face learning and generations of distance education. As to it, when eLearning develops, it has begun to use different approaches to address diverse goals(Oludare, Moradeke, & Thomas, 2012).

It can be concluded that eLearning is an innovation in the current era as it clearly has an impact on the Education 4.0. Since it is very useful and becoming more popular, eLearning is a good solution to create an active platform for learning. Therefore, it is important to understand on setting the right eLearning goals to enhance better teaching and learning for both educators and students(Peter, 2017).

Objectives of the ELearning are:

  • Enhance the quality of learning and teaching
  • Meet the learning style or needs of students
  • Improve the efficiency and effectiveness
  • Improve user-accessibility and time flexibility to engage learners in the learning process

Online learning has features that provide to these modern learner preferences – hence its rise in popularity. Here are the top five advantages of e-learning(Puri, 2020).

  1. E-learning saves time and money.

With online learning, your learners can access content anywhere and anytime. They don’t need to take time out from their jobs to attend classes. E-learning is also cost-effective; companies save a substantial amount on the travel and accommodation costs of both learners and instructors, as well as the venue and materials. No printing helps reduce your carbon footprint, too.

  1. E-learning leads to better retention.

Modern learners prefer bite-sized, interactive content. They would rather watch a video or listen to a podcast than read through pages of a manual. E-learning tools enable learning designers to make content interactive. The more engaging the content is, the better the learners remember information. If they enjoy learning, they can able to recall and apply the concepts at work.

  1. E-learning is consistent.

In face-to-face sessions, every instructor has his or her own method of teaching. Each varies in approach and style and is susceptible to mistakes. You can eliminate these issues with e-learning. Online learning provides consistent and standardized training every time. Each learner goes through the same experience regardless of when and where he or she takes the course.

  1. E-learning is scalable.

Online learning is scalable. You can roll it out to as many employees you need and is a one-time investment. The more learners take the course, the faster you can write off the expense.

  1. E-learning offers personalization.

Each learner has unique preferences and learning goals. E-learning makes it possible to cater to individual needs. It allows learners to choose their learning path and navigate at their own pace. When they decide what to learn and when, they remain invested in the course.

Features of the ELearning and Digital Library

  • Reading content
  • Quiz for each chapter in all courses
  • Accessible for both online and offline
